On Sunday 25 May 2025, our sweet boy Kitty, was sunbathing on our front garden in his usual spot and was unfortunately taken away from us in the most horrific way. Down our quiet cul-de-sac of 5 houses, a large Akita dog appeared roaming on its own down our street - all was captured on CCTV which can be found here. (Please note the video is very graphic so viewers discretion is advised). You can clearly see Kitty was violently chased, shaken and bit from this unattended, dangerous dog. The owners of the dog came a short time later without a care in the world for what their dog had done and can be seen looking at Kitty, picking up their dog and walking off leaving him to eventually pass away. Our beautiful boy was still alive at this point and it was clearly visible he was alive, as he gently lifted his head.

Kitty, from Swindon, Wiltshire, was 12 years old, but at heart he was still just a kitten. He was with us from the start of his life to the end and we’ll be forever grateful that we had 12 wonderful years with him, but it was not his time to leave us. Kitty was the softest, sweetest cat with a temperament like no other. He grew up with his Labrador brother, Sam - they were best friends, played together growing up and had an endless amount of love for each other. He had three cat siblings, Mika, Polly and Leo and they all miss him very much.

This horrendous incident was reported to the police along with the footage, however the case was immediately closed and we were told this dog was not “dangerous” and no crime had been committed. This is why we have set up a petition to change the law around dogs killing pet cats and other dogs. Owners need to be held accountable, especially in cases like this particular one. This has happened far too often and action is required now. Please sign and share this petition to help keep our cats and dogs safe.
